i’m very excited to announce that this morning i put a deposit on a miniature american shepherd puppy who is 3 weeks old. i was wondering what are the best training tips to teach a little puppy so he is an extremely well behaved dog. the good part about my job is i can always be home any time of the day as long as i plan accordingly. some things i want my dog to do, and i hope i can get advice on how to do it!
i know this has to do with their temperament, but is there a way to control how often they bark? like i was saying i work on the road and leave my house at 7am most mornings other mornings can be later. also i’m sure i will be visiting this sub a lot over the next few months. she lived until 15. the other is my ex girlfriends dog who i lived with for over two year so i do have some dog experience.
hi there, just got an 8 week golden retriever on saturday. i know it’s only been a few days, but it feels like forever. he’s not really food or toy motivated, so training has been… intermittent, at best. he hasn’t even really gotten the idea of “sit” down yet, only when we’re alone. he can’t even stay alone in his crate for a single second, because if i start to move away, he comes out (if the door is open) or starts barking and whining (if it’s not). i tried just ignoring him the first few days, but we live in a condo, and that’s not really an option at this point. i guess i’m just wondering what the timeline should like like? i know it’ll be different with every dog, but am i “behind”? i feel like i did so much research in the months leading up to adopting him, and now nothing is working.
