if a client needs a 10 hour work day, would you consider that your regular day care rate ? how do you rate boarding if they want to drop off in the a.m. and pick up in the p.m.? my pet parents are awesome and the dog is so easy to care for so i won’t raise my rates on them. regarding overnight stays, i have repeat customers that drop off early a.m. and on date of pick up, do pick up afternoon to early evening. i also explain that an overnight is 24 hrs so if they drop at 7am they must pick up by 7am the date of pick up or an extra charge will apply. i don’t take dogs for walks because i have a good sized back yard where i take them out to play several times throughout the day. based on the interpretation that day care is 9 hours, then approx.
at 10 hours, i think some would still offer the day care rate while others would book it as boarding, depending on how frequently that dog is booked. since i changed my schedule to be available at that time. i’m not quite sure how to approach them, as i don’t want to offend or lose them altogether ,but i feel like they are taking a bit advantage. i’d suggest @ 11-12 hours, it’s very reasonably justified to say that at that point, it really is beyond the usual hours for daycare. i would give them a notice of your rate change or early drop off fee as karen mentioned, like 15 or 30 days. yeah i don’t have drop offs earlier than 8:30am i would charge them an extra service fee for out of hours times. if you would like to engage in a discussion, please instead post a comment under the question or an answer that you would like to discuss
edit: what i am hoping to find out is what do other people who actually provide day care do. if i’m giving up a boarding spot for a day care dog, it’s one thing to make less money if the dog is here 8-9 hours but if i’m open 7-7 and getting 2/3 of what i charge for boarding it might not be worth. i understand those are just guidelines and every sitter can make their own rules so what i’m really asking is what do sitters who do doggy care actually do. therefore, the hours that hillary gave you are completely within reason for what a potential client would expect, i..e, to be able to drop off their dog before work and pick up afterward. i don’t know what you mean by “supposed to be,” but i think that we inherently are. i offer 12 hours day care, $10 extra for anything over.it really is not about making more money, but the idea that i can’t do anything other than sitting the dog till they pick up, so it’s lost opportunity to get after my other business because am sitting/waiting for the owner to pick up my daycare clients are able to drop off as early as 6:30 am and pick up by 7:30 pm, but i have yet to have someone actually leave their dog the whole time.
